Plants Are Decor Too.

Plants can really enhance the overall aesthetic and ambiance of a space. When it comes to choosing plants for interior design, several factors should be considered, such as lighting conditions, space availability, and personal preferences. Here are some of my favs for use in interior design:

  1. Fiddle Leaf Fig (Ficus lyrata): Known for its large, glossy leaves, the fiddle leaf fig is a popular choice for adding a touch of elegance and drama to any room. They start off small but can grow tall with several dramatic branches.

  2. Snake Plant (Sansevieria): With its upright, sword-shaped leaves, the snake plant is a low-maintenance option that can thrive in various lighting conditions, making it versatile for different interior spaces.

  3. ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia): The ZZ plant is known for its glossy, dark green leaves and its ability to tolerate low light conditions. It's a great choice for adding greenery to corners or areas with minimal natural light. ZZ Plants, while some of my favs, can be toxic to dogs if ingested. So if your pooch likes to chomp on your plants, keep these up high.

  4. Pothos (Epipremnum aureum): Pothos is a trailing vine with heart-shaped leaves that can be displayed in hanging baskets or allowed to cascade down shelves or furniture. It's an easy-to-grow plant and comes in different leaf patterns.

  5. Monstera deliciosa: Also known as the Swiss cheese plant, the monstera has large, fenestrated leaves that add a tropical and exotic touch to interior spaces. It can be placed on the floor or on elevated surfaces.

  6. Rubber Plant (Ficus elastica): With its shiny, leathery leaves, the rubber plant brings a bold and dramatic look to any space. It can grow quite tall and is often used as a statement plant and is generally used on the floor, as they can grow quite large.

When choosing plants for your home don’t forget to consider light levels, humidity, and care requirements. Plants need love and attention in the form of food and water, and even regular leaf cleanings and in turn they make a space feel more alive and add a pop of color and visual interest.

You can find most of these plants at your local garden shop, or check out Bloomscape or Lively Root, for easy online ordering and home delivery. They have a great array of plants to choose from.
